A Thoughtful, Hand-Painted Portrait — Created with Care
Each portrait begins with time spent together, observing personality, gesture, and expression — and unfolds slowly through a process rooted in classical painting and personal connection.

THE PORTRAIT PROCESS

01
The Sitting
The process begins with a sitting — not a stiff pose, but a relaxed visit.
For children especially, this time is about letting them be themselves. We talk, draw, move around, and take breaks as needed. I observe how they sit, how they interact, and how their personalities come through in natural moments.
This time together is essential. It lays the foundation for a portrait that feels genuine rather than forced.
02
Gathering Reference
During and after the sitting, I gather reference materials — photographs, sketches, and visual notes — that help guide the painting process.
These references are not copied directly, but used as tools to better understand form, expression, and light as the portrait takes shape in the studio.

03
The Painting Process
The painting itself unfolds slowly over time.
I begin with loose, painterly layers to establish composition and mood, gradually refining the portrait while preserving a sense of life and movement. My approach balances careful observation with expressive brushwork, allowing the painting to feel both accurate and alive.
This stage often takes several weeks, as the portrait develops through multiple sessions and drying periods.
04
Finished Work Reveal
The completed portrait reflects not only a likeness, but a moment in time — a quiet record of personality, connection, and presence.
These paintings are meant to live with families for generations, becoming part of the home and its history.
